Health and Safety

Chidlow Decorators are fully qualified to act as Principal Contractor under the CDM Regulations of 2007 and Health & Safety considerations are paramount within our company. The Health & Safety of all our personnel and the public that we are constantly involved with is of great importance.

As a commitment to Health & Safety and to ensure that we are continually aware and up to date with all of the relevant Health & Safety Legislation, we undertake annual audits to achieve CHAS Accreditation and SafeContractor Accreditation, both of which we are proud to hold.

As well as being competent within the Management and the Operative Sectors of our business, Chidlow Decorators also employs the services of external consultants in Health & Safety; those Health & safety Consultants being Jennings Safety Services Ltd.

All core personnel have undergone Health & Safety Awareness Training as part of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and will regularly be further trained and refreshed as and when any existing training is coming to the end of its certified period.  All employees are made aware of their Rights and Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and under the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999.  We have a consistently good Health & Safety Record with our Company Incident Statistics multiplying out at nil or extremely low, annually over the last decade.

Our workforce is trained in the following compulsory areas, those being; Full First Aiders are employed and trained.  Appointed Persons in First Aid are employed and trained.  Aluminium Mobile Tower erection and dismantling (PASMA Certified), Mechanical Elevated Working Platform trained (IPAF Certified), Manual Handling and CSCS.

Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans are compiled on all contracts where we act as Principal Contractor and Risk Assessments and Method Statements are completed on all other contracts of the shortest duration.  This ensures that our clients are informed of how the job will be carried out detailing any control measures that would be put in place. The Method Statement is based on the Risk Assessment, which details assessment of the risks to the Health & Safety of our employees, our clients and the general public who could be directly affected by the work that we carry out.  These have proved to be an effective and practical project management tool.
